I love being a dentist. It’s a hands-on profession in which I work closely with my patients. God made each person unique and I appreciate their company, and the stories they share, as we work together to improve their dental health.
I’ve been part of the practice for more than 15 years and have enjoyed seeing families change and grow during that time. I particularly like working with people who are restoring their oral health and their smile. There’s a lot of personal and professional joy when a person is able to smile with confidence ... and I love seeing those big, bright, wonderful smiles in the community!
We have so much to worry about in life: I, and everyone here, strive to make visits and treatments as stress-free as possible. I like making things comfortable for my patients and constantly check to see how they’re feeling and if there’s anything they need.
We have an incredible group of people here at the practice. Each is committed to making patients feel at home, safe, and well cared for during visits. They are people-oriented and try to make sure every patient has a comfortable, smooth experience and leaves with a smile!
Education and Continuing Education
- Undergraduate studies – University of Nevada, Reno
- Doctorate of Dental Medicine – Oregon Health Sciences University, Portland
After receiving my dental degree, I served our country as a dentist in the U.S. Navy from 1996 to 1999. During that time, I completed my general practice residency at Portsmouth Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia.
Continuing education is a core part of my commitment to my profession, my patients, and myself. Throughout the year I take a range of postgraduate courses to stay current on new methodologies and technology. This ensures patients receive the best treatment for their needs.

Beyond the Practice
I grew up in Reno and moved to Grants Pass after serving in the Navy. My wife Jolene and I have seven children between the two of us: Parker, Paige, and Presley Pastrell and Ryan, Tyler, Anna, and Aiden Brown.
Jolene teaches Zumba twice a week and is an esthetician by day. When I’m not at work, I’m usually home with the kids or on a campout with them. We are a musical family and love the guitar, piano, and saxophone.
